About CSAT

Beginning from the year 2010, the preliminary section of the civil services examination shall witness the following changes:

  • Removal of the optional subject
  • Introduction of Civil Services Aptitude Test
  • Provision of equal weight to both papers - Paper I General Awareness and Paper II Aptitude test - CSAT
These changes are expected to offer a level playing field to all the candidates, as the previous process favored students of popular subjects. The purpose of the CSAT shall be to measure the following:
  • Comprehension skills
  • Interpersonal skills, including communication skills
  • Logical reasoning and analytical ability
  • Decision making and problem solving skills
  • General mental ability
  • Basic numeracy (Class X level)
  • Data interpretation (Class X level)
  • English Language Comprehension skills (Class X level)
