If you thought that the decision of whether or not to do an MBA was tough - think again! Because usually the trickier part is deciding which B-School would best fulfill your requirements, under the constraints that you are faced with. With over a thousand B-schools in India vying for your attention and each publication and institute coming up with its own list of B-School rankings, the information at hand seems to increase the confusion rather than diminish it.
Pursuing an MBA is not an end in itself, unless you pursue a program that is respected and recognized. While the decision to apply to a specific B-School would ideally depend on your specific requirements from an MBA and personal constraints that you need to take into account, there are certain generally accepted parameters that play an important role in all ratings. Some of the more important ones are:
 the level of interaction between a B-school and industry
the learning environment and scope for overall development in the curriculum
the infrastructure - library, lecture theatres, campus services, computer labs and internet/LAN connectivity
the faculty (qualifications, teaching and research experience, full-time faculty, faculty to students ratio etc.)
the electives and specializations offered
placement record, potential recruiters, statistics pertaining to recruitment in various sectors etc.
active student body/ placement cell and/or the alumni network.
But then the next question that comes to mind is that if the criteria for ranking B-Schools are more or less uniform, then how does each survey throw up a different rank list. From the subjectivity inherent in survey methodology and in the data itself, to matters that require individual judgment (and yet others that incite personal bias!) - there is enough scope to use similar tools and yet come up with a different product each time. And that is precisely why it is important not to bother about the exact ranking of any one or two surveys but to take into account the general opinion of a few put together.
The following grading of B-Schools has been compiled by TeamRoots with inputs from over 50 alumni of leading B-Schools, most of them involved closely with the industry and the B-Schools in various capacities ranging from faculty positions to campus recruiters on behalf of their companies. The grading also makes use of the inputs received from hundreds of Rooters who have successfully made it to some of the top B-Schools in India mentioned in the list below.
All the B-Schools within a category are comparable and very close in their scores on nearly all the crucial parameters such as Campus Placements, Faculty, Curriculum, Industry Interaction, Industry Perception, Infrastructure and Strength of Alumni Network, amongst others. We hope that the same will help you in the selection process for the B-Schools that you should be applying to.
